My Gluten Free Guide To New York!
Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamt of going to New York. In November 2019 that dream of mine came true and boy was it worth the wait. More than a few happy tears were shed. Have you ever gone on a trip or holiday and just felt like you were always meant to be in that very place?! Well my heart belongs to NYC for sure and I dream of living there some day... but let's just take it one step at a time!! So I have finally gotten round to sharing my favourite gluten free spots in NYC. I was only there for a few days but I managed to cram a lot of yummy food in!!
1. Modern Bread and Bagel
Ok so this was by far my favourite venue of the entire trip. Modern Bread and Bagel is a 100% gluten free bakery and wow is it good! It's located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and was really easy to find. We decided to try their bagels on the first day of the trip and I can confirm that I went back every single morning because it's just that good! I don't know what magic ingredient they put in their food but you can not tell their bread is gluten free. If you want a soft and chewy New York bagel I urge you to run to this place. My favourite combination was the everything bagel with spinach and artichoke cream cheese and I couldn't say no to a slice of chocolate babka *heart eyes* I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with a bagel but here was are, I dream about them on the daily. If you are looking for a yummy, inexpensive breakfast this is the place for you! They also had a few vegan cream cheese options too!

2. Posh Pop Bake Shop
Before we went away I did a lot of research to try and make sure I ate the most delicious foods in our short trip. Posh Pop came up time and time again. This is another amazing 100% gluten free bakery. If you look at their instagram feed you will be left drooling at all of their delicious treats. There was far too much to choose from. I wish I could have ordered one of everything. If you are looking for a sugary paradise this is the place for you! I started off by trying one of their s'mores cookies which was not only huge but so chewy and gooey. We loved our first trip so much we just had to go back and get some more goodies, this time I got a pumpkin cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting which they kindly warmed up for me so it went all soft and gooey. The cinnamon roll is a must try! I also got to taste the tiramisu cheesecake which was lovely but I hate to say it but I'm not a cheesecake fan!! There is certainly a treat that everyone can enjoy here. The decor is also super cute so I would recommend eating inside the cafe.
3. Don Antonio Pizza
When in New York you've just got to try the pizza. I tried to find a pizza place with the best reviews. Don Antonio's is in Midtown Manhattan very close to Broadway and was another easy find. They cater for gluten free really well. There is an addition $4 charge for a gluten free pizza but it was so good that I really didn't mind. I ended up ordering a Margherita with artichokes and it was amazing. I don't know what magic the Americans do with their gluten free products but their free from options are 100x better than in the UK. This is a great dinner option if you are visiting the sights on Broadway or even going to see a show!

4. Senza Glutine
Senza Glutine is so delicious that it has two locations! They have a bakery and then a seperate restaurant. We only managed to visit the bakery but next time I will definitely be visiting the restaurant and of course it's 100% gluten free. We decided to get a panini each. I chose the prosciutto and mozzarella and Sam chose the chicken panini, they were both served with a salad and some potatoes which were so delicious. I actually chose to visit this bakery because of the amazing and huge looking eclairs that I saw on their instagram page but I was far too full to eat any pastries or cake after our huge panini! It just gives me another excuse to go back asap.

I did visit a few other locations but these four were by far my favourite places. I also stopped by in places like Wholefoods, Target and Trader Joes to get snacks and food on the go. I have a new crazy love for Trader Joes. New York was extremely gluten free friendly and I felt so calm when eating out. If you have been worried about travelling whilst having an allergy or intolerance then New York is the place for you! You will be very well looked after.
I would love to go back to New York within the next year or two so I can pick up where I left off. If I do manage to go back I will update this as soon as I can! If you have any recommendations let me know! Any excuse to go back would be greatly appreciated haha!
Until next time,
Paige x
